Visit the Usambara Mountains in Tanzania and hike in ancient forests which are ecologically unique. The quaint German style town of Lushoto is the gateway to this beautiful area.
The Usambara Mountains offer amazing views, historic sites and idyllic trails to explore. The fertile mountain slopes are dotted with small villages and farms but for the most part they are covered with tropical forests. This is suitable for visitors from Northern Tanzania, Tanga, Dar es Salaam and Bagamoyo.
ITINERARY
Day 1
DAR ES SALAAM TO USAMBARA MOUNTAINS (LUSHOTO)
Meet your driver guide, depart to Usambara
Mountains (Lushoto). Arrival in Lushoto for afternoon tour. Check in at Irente Farm Lodge
Day 2
FULL DAY TOUR TO WATERFALLS, IRENTE VIEW & MAGAMBA RAIN FOREST
After breakfast, hike
to this outlook for spectacular views of the village of Mazinde and the Maasai
plains, almost 1000mtrs below.
Eat lunch at the irente
Biodiversity reserve/farm in their beautifull flower garden.
Magamba Rain Forest also takes 5-6hrs,
Walk through villages and farm land to the lush
rainforest where you can see black and white colobus monkeys. On the way back,
pass by the historical royal village of the kilindi (the washambaa rulling
clan) and the old German bunker dug during world War 1.
Combined Trip to Magamba &Irente Viewpoint (Fully Day)
For shorter stays in the area, we recommend a
combination hike to the irente viewpoint and Magamba Rainforest, where you can
see colobus monkeys.
After tour, return to the hotel for dinner and overnight at Irente Farm Lodge
Day 3
LUSHOTO TO MTAE VIEW POINT
After breakfast departure from Lushoto to Mtae
(The World View Point ) trek through the forests, villages, and farmland, visit
and sleep in a local home, and experience the traditional life of the shambaa
people. Later return to the hotel for dinner and overnight at Irente Farm Lodge
Day 4
DEPARTURE BACK TO DAR
After breakfast, depart back to Dar.
