Akagera Park Day trip

05h00: Pick up from your city hotel and set off for Akagera National Park. We will stop briefly en route for a toilet break and light breakfast at the Imigongo restaurant and art centre. Continue the drive

08h00: Arrive at the park headquarters for tour formalities and briefing by the warden. Immediately set off for the Lake Ihema jetty. 09h00: Depart for a guided boat ride. Lining the lakes are some of the continent’s densest concentrations of water birds, while the connecting marshes are the haunt of the endangered and exquisite papyrus gonolek, and the bizarre shoebill stork the latter perhaps the most eagerly sought of all African birds.

10h30: Once done, you will rejoin your driver guide and proceed for a full day game viewing drive in the park. You will have a hot lunch at the Lake Mihindi Restaurant.

The game drive in Akagera National Park provides you with the opportunity to view gentle hills blending beautifully with lowland swamps and water bodies. You will visit the Giraffe area in the south and the lakes road up towards Birengero. Akagera National park is home to elephants, buffalos, giraffes, zebras and more than a dozen types of antelopes inhabit the park. The most common ones are the handsome chestnut-coated impalas, the diminutive oribis, the secretive bushbucks, as well as the ungainly tsessebe and the world's largest antelope, the statuesque Cape elands. If lucky, you will be able to spot the elusive leopard, a pride of lions or the white rhinos. Akagera has over 450 species of bird life.

You will exit the park from the North by 17h00 and drive back to Kigali. Arrive and drop off at your city hotel by 20h00.
